The United States is the Organization’s largest contributor and ranks first in terms of annual contributions to the OECD budget, providing nearly 25% of members’ contributions, amounting to 73.5 million euros in 2007.

OECD work is carried out by a Secretariat divided into 12 main Directorates and semi-autonomous bodies that are guided by member countries that participate in over 200 Committees and Working Parties. The United States is represented at these meetings by ‘delegates’ or representatives – nearly 1,000 each year - from government and the private sector who strive to ensure United States policy objectives are achieved. In all, some 40,000 officials from around the world participate in OECD Committees annually, contributing to the work of the Organization.

The United States currently chairs and vice-chairs several OECD Committees and Working parties.
